Thanks for the right on spot description. By now this entire camera can be purchased for $15 on eBay - yet, it's dear to my Dad. I've got the new LCD screen for about $12 and replaced the old broken one based on your post. No problem at all - went smooth. Thanks so much!

"1. My screen just shows white or gray. (E.g. white screen, white display). What did I do wrong?
A. The ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the circuit board was not inserted deeply enough. The end of the ribbon cable has a narrow portion, then a very small much wider portion with two holes at either end, then it narrows again. The very tip should be inserted into the "socket" deeply enough that the wider portion is pressed right up against the "socket." Physically, it cannot be inserted more deeply.
It may help you to use two wooden or plastic toothpicks, one in each of the small holes at the end of the cable, to push the cable into the socket." (http://www.fixya.com/support/t103717-sd400_broken_screen)

Hello, I tried similar on my IXUS65 when the lens became broken when the camera was accidentally dropped with lens out. I completely disassembled to replace the lens unit. Very tricky and many screws and small components easily broken and damaged.
Just beware that the small ribbon cable connector retaining gates are extremely fragile and easy to break. As in my case , if you break them you probably need to buy a new board.

Thanks for the series of excellent pictures, this gave me the confidence to get my Ixus 30 working again (message to self: never put camera in back pocket before sitting down). Mishaps along the way were not being able to get the 7th screw out and as a result the old screen cable broke when pulling through. However by feeding a piece of parcel ribbon through the gap and slightly flexing the backlight I was able eventually to pull the new screen cable through.

I am so glad your posted these instructions on how to install a new lcd screen. I have a sd400 and it help to have these tips. One thing I did that scared me at first was pull the connector to the back lite loose, but, it plugged in the same way the screen did and it was not a problem. It was a little trickey getting the screen disconnected from the back lite but, that was the only problem.

Thanks again
