Thanks for info, I was able to replace lcd, however now the lens makes an odd crunching noise when closing. Still the camera is more functional then it was prior to the repair.

To make things a little easier when reinserting the ribbion take off the part that holds the tri-pod, its two screws one in front and one in back. Now thats easy!

Thanks for the info!
However, in attempting the repair myself, my LCD doesn't seem to work. The camera will turn on, and the backlight, but the screen is just blank. Anyone run into this? And how do I fix it?

Worked like a charm! Thanks!

Instead of using a post-it note, I doubled up a piece of scotch tape lengthwise which worked well because it is more durable.

Also, after taking out screw #7 I put it back in because it didn't seem to need to come out and having everything loose around the screen is annoying when you have to keep flipping the camera over.

Thanks very much!

Thanks for the great guide! I lost my ribbon chaser but was able to reroute using a thin wire from a twisty tie. My Backlight screw was too tight to undo but was able to complete the ribbon cable passing without undoing it. I really appreciate the great photos and making this available so I felt confident enough to repair my camera. Thanks again!!!

If you're an idiot like me and don't stick the ribbon cable to the paper properly, then you can access the hole easier by taking off the backlight.

Thanks for the info. Be careful about your backlight power ribbon when you do this!! The filters over the backlight, and the power cable for the backlight came out when I was repairing my LCD screen (fat fingers... oh well). I had to remove the func set, disp, and menu buttons and also jam back in the power for the backlight for it to work. I got it back in, but it was very frustrating. Thanks for the guide. You saved me from buying a whole new camera.

Im nominating you for the nobel peace prize. Not that you have done anything for the international peace scene but because there is no nobel camera fixer section.

Great post! Anyone else experience issues where the lens stays partially open? Went through the typical things to check, battery low, etc. My warranty expired, now I just wanna experiment with it and open its guts.

If anyone has experience opening up the SD400, and fixing the lens, please let me know. Thanks!

I owe a HUGE thank you to Matt for posting these perfect step-by-step instructions. My LCD was shattered and I was able to find some other postings that lead me to the Canon parts center in NJ and for around $65, these instructions, and about a half hour of my time, my camera is fixed! It's nice that people take the time to share their experiences so that other people can learn. Thank You. Julie

dude, awesome instructions.

for those attempting this however, i would recommend that you use a "heavy" paper wieght because i used just normal printer paper and it ripped when being threded through. i would re-inforce the section going through the camera with scotch tape thats what worked for me.
